Weekend Plans, 6/13/2008

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

Ok, I know.  I’ve posted a lot today.  I should probably be doing more work…but by damned, I’m tired of that.  Here are the plans for this weekend.

This is one of my “free” weekends, because I don’t have to go to anyone’s wedding, or have any other things I’m obligated to do.  The yard is mowed, the house is taken care of…just a freebie weekend (oh, and Kim works on Saturday).  Chief and I are making a day of it.

We have this competition going that is likely to have us fighting the good fight with skin cancer when we are older.  We try to out sunburn the other.  It’s not really the intensity that matters, just who can get sunburned the most times.  There for a while we were both getting sunburned every single weekend (whatever happened to getting sunburned once a year, and then tanning from there???).

THIS WEEKEND!

  • 8:00am - Drive to Chief’s
  • 8:30am - Go garage saling — looking for Chief some golf clubs
  • Go to the driving range and hit a couple of buckets of balls
  • 12:00pm - Freebirds
  • Find some batting cages and start swinging
  • 7:00pm - Go up to Frisco to the Rough-riders minor league game
  • 10:00pm - start bitching about how sunburnt we are

No plans for Sunday yet.  According to the workout schedule that Kimberly and I have agreed to though, Sunday night we will be at the gym.

Next weekend (6/21/2008) is a Tyler, TX weekend.  Time will be limited.  We absolutely must spend some time with Kathy, but may try to get a game of golf or something in too.  Or maybe the Reds will invite us to another Couple’s Night thing.

My Favorite Clover and Child

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

I was fully expecting this to be another boring week with nothing but work and mowing.  But it turned out that I found two of my favorite people from the past.

First up, Chris Childs!  That came about by me making a MySpace page, Osborn finding it, and then me emailing him to catch up on his life.  In it I asked if he knew how to get in contact with Chris.  Chris finally answered my phone calls, and we caught up for a while.  I even got a comment from the rest of the Childs’ family (still need to email you guys, I’ll get around to it soon).

Then, today in the tunnels below the sky scrapers in Dallas, I was eating lunch like I always do and I saw this clumsy blond tripping over her high heels!  It turns out that Carlie Clover works in one of the buildings adjacent to the one I work in!

So just like that, two of my favorite people from my younger years!  I hate it when I have great weeks like this, because that means that next week something bad is going to happen.  Car wreck…refrigerator breaking…something bad is looming!

Gym Membership

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

Kimberly signed us up for the gym today!  Hopefully tonight will be our first night to work out.  I would like to say this will be the start of me getting skinnier…but if the past is any indications, we will probably stop working out in about a week.

6/9/2008 Weekend in Review

Monday, June 9th, 2008

I think I’d give it about a 5 on a scale of 1 to 10.  Let’s start with Thursday though.

Russell bought us all tickets to the Rangers’ game on Thursday, we went, got tired, went to eat at Chili’s.  I wasn’t really that hungry because we had already had this huge order of garlic/cajun fries.  There is something interesting to note at the stadium though.  If you buy your alcoholic beverage on the first floor, you cannot carry it up to the second floor.  That was a waste of $7.  Why would any place like that have separate liquor licenses for the different floors?

Saturday Kim made me vacuum at 11pm at night.  Before that, she had gone to see the Sex in the City movie.  I had gone and saw the Indiana Jones movie.  Let me just save everyone the time and trouble of seeing that one…there are aliens in it.  Now either you want to go see it even more, or you have just saved yourself about 2 hours of time.  Everyone kept saying that it wasn’t so good…but I never heard anyone say there were aliens in it or I would have never gone and saw it (and I’m a huge fan a movies with aliens in them).

Yesterday I went and saw The Chronicles of Narnia.  That was quite an enjoyable little show.  After that, we had to go furniture shopping just to “price how much the rest of it would cost.”  Well, she tricked me.  Maybe she knew how much I wanted a new bed…whatever it was…we ended up buying a king size bed, mattress, a nightstand, and some other piece of furniture that I have no idea how to spell (arm-wah is how it sounds though).

Check this out…did you know that if you pay with cash that you get 16% off at Ashley’s furniture?  Does everyone realize what that means?  Those 12 months same-as-cash deals actually have their interest charges built in upfront.  What a crock of crap.  Credit cards count as cash, by the way…so if you have a credit card with a good interest rate, or you think you can pay it off before you get to 16% 20% (16% off equates to 20% added, in the same way that $100 discounted 20% equals $80…then to get from $80 back to $100 you have to add 25% of $80) worth of finance charges, it is best to charge it on a card.

Weekend Update

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

This weekend was absolutely exhausting.  Saturday we got up at 7:30am and went to help Amber and Brian move to their new apartment.  They did a much better job this time of having everything ready to be moved.  Packing the stuff up wasn’t so bad, but unloading it in the direct sun and having a rather long walk was horrible!  I do believe it is at that point in which I became dehydrated, because I started getting one of those headaches.

From there though, Chief came over and we installed his new mirror (it has switches and hydraulics in it).  It was by far the easiest project the two of us have ever undertaken.  I was hoping his ride would still be running like crap so we could continue onto something else…but after we replaced the mirror it started running perfectly again.  Damnit.

We just started drinking beer for the rest of the day…which can’t be good considering I was already dehydrated.  I couldn’t get out of bed until 10:30 or so the next day.  When I woke up, I couldn’t hardly open my eyes because they were so dry.

However, come to find out that Kim has gone and bought replacement vegetation for our flower bed.  When I woke up, she was out there with a shovel trying to pry one of the shrubs out of the ground.  There is no tell how long she was at it for.  I went out there and heroically lifted the shrub from the ground.  That’s just how I get down.  Eventually, I derooted the rest of the flowerbed.  I really should have stopped there, but I proceeded to hand-till the ground so that it would be easier to plant the replacements in.

Then, Sunday night as I was laying on the couch, considering whether or not I should go get an IV bag to rehydrate myself, Kim found it in her heart to ask “Did you vacuum this weekend?”
