Weekend Update: 10/27/2008

Monday, October 27th, 2008

We did a lot of stuff this weekend, but not much of anything.  On Saturday, we got up and trimmed our trees back, and then went and early voted.  One of the propositions was whether to allow the sale of alcohol for off-premises consumption.  I believe we both voted ‘yes’ on that one.  When we were leaving, we saw people holding signs telling us to vote ‘no.’

I wonder what the argument is against that.  I have only lived in one place in my life where you could go buy wine/beer in the Wal-mart/Target in your weekly trip, and I must say it is so much nicer and more convenient.  Having them far away, in my opinion, just makes the streets more dangerous because if someone runs out of beer (after they have already been drinking), they are going to go travel that much farther to the beer store.  If there was one on the corner or at the gas station, they could theoretically walk (which they wouldn’t, but at least they aren’t on the road quite as long).

Oh well, it doesn’t really matter one way or the other to me.  When I was the beers I just pick them up on my way home.  Saturday evening I went over to Chief’s to help him celebrate.  I’m not sure wha the was celebrating, but there we drank beer…so it must have been something.

Sunday we hosted a family dinner.  Susan, Jesse, and Lance (from Kim’s work) came.  It was quite a good time.

Monday was horrible though (and it’s only 10:24am on Monday).  I got stuck in traffic.  By the time I got to see the accident (1 hour after it occurred) there were still something like 6 or more cars piled up.  I was sitting there for forever!  They closed the road off behind us — and it took more than an hour for those of us that were unfortunate enough to not have an escape route to get through.

Class Reunion Weekend

Monday, October 20th, 2008

This weekend was full of rowdiness.  After work on Friday, we went to Tyler.  When we got to Tyler (around 10-ish) and hung out with Chief and April and Ben all night.  We ended up at this house party where Chief was being chased around by a rather aggressive girl.  To make it all the funnier, April kept encouraging said girl to pursue Chief even harder, even though Chief was basically running from her all night.  It was the funniest thing I have witnessed in a long time.

The class reunion was pretty fun.  It was good to see all the people I haven’t talked to in a long time.  I’ll definitely go to the next one.  One highlight was that Casey Collier was voted (back in 1998) as “Most likely to change the most” and “Most likely to still live at home.”  I suppose that is only funny if you know him.

One group of people dressed up in wigs and crazy clothes for the union (Mr. Cool, Yancy, some other people).  They were apparently completely drunk before it even started.  I don’t think the reaction they received is the one that they were looking for.  Most people kind of just looked at them in pity, thinking along the lines of “how insecure do you have to be to do that?”  I guess they rolled the dice on that one — it was either going to be really funny, or really awkward…and I don’t think I heard anyone laughing.

April makes the best sandwiches ever….and congratulations to Sarah on getting engaged!
