Class Reunion Weekend

Monday, October 20th, 2008

This weekend was full of rowdiness.  After work on Friday, we went to Tyler.  When we got to Tyler (around 10-ish) and hung out with Chief and April and Ben all night.  We ended up at this house party where Chief was being chased around by a rather aggressive girl.  To make it all the funnier, April kept encouraging said girl to pursue Chief even harder, even though Chief was basically running from her all night.  It was the funniest thing I have witnessed in a long time.

The class reunion was pretty fun.  It was good to see all the people I haven’t talked to in a long time.  I’ll definitely go to the next one.  One highlight was that Casey Collier was voted (back in 1998) as “Most likely to change the most” and “Most likely to still live at home.”  I suppose that is only funny if you know him.

One group of people dressed up in wigs and crazy clothes for the union (Mr. Cool, Yancy, some other people).  They were apparently completely drunk before it even started.  I don’t think the reaction they received is the one that they were looking for.  Most people kind of just looked at them in pity, thinking along the lines of “how insecure do you have to be to do that?”  I guess they rolled the dice on that one — it was either going to be really funny, or really awkward…and I don’t think I heard anyone laughing.

April makes the best sandwiches ever….and congratulations to Sarah on getting engaged!

What a fantastic weekend.  Not much of anything happened.  On Saturday, Kimmie fooled me into going to town by saying we could go watch a movie.  We ate at Red Robbins (YUMMMMM), and then went ski clothes shopping.  We didn’t actually get any ski clothes though, because it seems like they were ridiculously expensive.  When I think of buying a ski bib, I think of $50-$100.  These were going for $150.  When I think of a ski jacket, I think of $200-$400.  On these, they were close with $500.  So on that front, I think we are going to wait until a little closer to winter, when maybe some of these other athletic shops will changes from summer sports to winter sports gear.

After the eating and the shopping though, Kim dropped the hammer on her manipulative plan…and said she wanted me to take her home and that I could go watch a movie by myself.  She’s a clever one…

But I went and saw “Traitor.”  It was pretty good.  I’d give it a 4 our of 5.  Maybe 3.75, but more than likely 4.  I wanted to see the “Burn after Reading” movie, but after Kim’s Tom Foolery, I didn’t get a chance too.

Grapefest

Friday, September 12th, 2008

We went to Grapefest last night with Kim’s crew.  It was rather uneventful…but Kim did get smashed which is always entertaining.  The only real thing to report is a stupid little joke I said and thought was really funny, and to feed my ego I am going to retell it here.

We were walking out of the place, and a Home Depot guy comes up to us with a bucket and say “Would you like to draw for a prize?” (He probably said what the prize was…I don’t remember).  I said “Oh no thanks, I’m not much of an artist.”

**UPDATE**

I forgot to mention that we bought our first real piece of artwork.  You can go here and see them.  In the top section, scroll (put your mouse on the picture at the far edge) and find the painting that are 4 separate paintings that each have a tree on them.  The painting is called “Four Seasons.”

So how about it? What did you do this weekend?

Saturday Chief came to the house early.  We went and got some donuts, and some brake pads.  Then we changed his breaks on his Jimmy.  Eh, really he did all the work…but I made small talk (”How about this heat?”  “It’s not the heat, it’s the humidity.”)  It was a good old fashion ho-down.

After that, we went to look at his new apartment complex.  We looked like a gay couple, I’d assume…we often do on date-days.  This time I forgot my wedding ring, so there was absolutely nothing to tell onlookers anything to the contrary.  The lady showing Chief around was quite possibly the most entertaining person ever to be around.  I hope Chief drops the moves on her and marries her.

Sunday Sunday Sunday.  We painted a single wall in the study.  It was green, and now one wall is deep blue.  It’s tight looking.  I think this weekend we are painting the other 3 walls some tan or khaki color.  I’ll get you folks a picture when it is completed.

Weekend in review

I’m sure all the ladies out there are wondering what I did this weekend…so here it is.  Our wedding photo album was ready so we drove down to Tyler to pick it up in person.  I know…I know…most of you are probably saying “Why couldn’t they just mail it to you?”  STOP BEING NAIVE!!!  The world doesn’t work like that!!!  You just don’t understand!!!!!!

While we were down there, we ate lunch with Russell and Melanie (how silly would it have looked for us to drive down there, pick up the book in 15 minutes, and then drive back?!!).  This was supposed to be my birthday dinner, but alas, I didn’t get to eat where I wanted to.  I wanted to eat at Taquiera el Lugar.  I thought that only one of these existed in Tyler, but apparently there are 3 of them.  As luck would have it, they happened to pick a place right next to one of them.  I thought it was some kind of surprise or trick they were playing on me…but nope…we didn’t eat there.

Nothing really happened on Sunday.  This week we have Susan’s dogs.  I have a feeling they bark all day long in the backyard, because in the few minutes I’m in the house in the morning getting ready, I hear them going nonstop back there.  Oh well, the neighbors’ dogs do the same thing.

Kimberly got an offer to be hired on directly by Honda Financial Company yesterday (she has been a temp all along).  So pretty soon she should get to order her Honda Civic (like September when they start making next year’s model).
